Good grief it's been a while since i've blogged on here!  We have been so busy with lots of different things lately.  I'm on a serious mission to declutter and we're going to be having a yard sale soon.  It feels so nice to be getting rid of stuff!!
I'll be back soon with some fun field trip pictures!

Melt my bargain-loving heart!!

I was in the kitchen pouring coffee and Wyatt brought his little friend in and said "Hey, let me show you how much money my mom knows how to save".  Then he opened the fridge and showed him the ridiculous stash of biscuits that we've been getting for practically nothing, and said "isn't that cool?".
I loved hearing that!

Happy Easter!

Ours was wonderful!  We had beautiful weather and were all so thankful for this amazing Resurrection day!

What a mess we are!

It's no secret that I love a good bargain and that Ben loves fishing.

I had to laugh at us tonight as we were driving..our conversation went about like this....

Me:  Can you believe that Kmart didn't have anything that I went for?
Ben:  I am so glad I found that new fishing spot.  I can't wait to go back
Me:  I paid less than $1 for all of it...Look!
Ben:  Man, that fish was huge.  I mean it...he was a big one.  I'm going back for him
Me:  If only that one other coupon would have doubled, I could have had a better deal
Ben:  Man, I can't believe how big that fish was.  And we was RIGHT THERE!
Me:  Seriously, that was an awesome transaction....see??  LOOK!!!
Ben:  I almost had him...so close!

This went on the entire way home.  I feel bad for our kids!!!

Mud

I was cleaning out the van and all 3 kids were nearby playing...I could see them just fine but couldn't really tell what they were doing (they were huddled around a spot in the grass).  After about 20 minutes I was done and walked over to find this.  Of course the big two weren't anywhere near as muddy!

Gymnastics

Natalie took a really fun gymnastics class at a local community center, and these are pictures from the last class of the session.  She loved it and has decided to take this instead of playing soccer (they each had to choose one thing to do).  Wyatt finally decided on soccer--I think!

Getting her award for doing such a great job!!

Jesus, King of Kings...and Legos

Last week Wyatt told me he was going upstairs to make something from the Bible with his legos.  A little bit later he came down with this--the Lego Easter Story!

Sleep...it's overrated

Our two oldest kids, they still don't sleep good.  At least 50% of the time I wake up to find at least one of them in our bed by midnight.  I don't think either of them slept through the night until they were almost two.
So when we found out Mason was joining us, my first thought was "this one is going to sleep!".   I did things differently with him--I put him in his bed sooner and I would lay him down before he was asleep so that he could learn to get there by himself.  Around 3 or 4 months he was sleeping 7+ hours straight at night, and it was great.
Then around 5 months something happened....he started teething and waking up during the night, and I just brought him in our bed.  He wouldn't even sleep well there...he'd wake up numerous times to eat and we would both be exhausted during the day (the only difference is he gets to nap, I don't).
Over the past few nights i've started a new bedtime routine with him and he's once again falling asleep on his own, in his bed.  And last night something amazing happened--he slept all night long!!!

But not me.  I woke up at least 6 times to check on him :(

Natalie's 6th Birthday!

This year Natalie got to have her party at a sweet tea room in town.  Grammy usually takes her once or twice a year but we hadn't been in a while, so it was an extra special time!  Even better was that cousin Grace was here to celebrate!

Gracie Lou getting her nails done!

Hair in rollers, ready for bed!

Mason Is Walking!!!

Last Saturday (27th) he took a step or two, but that was it.  Then on Tuesday he took off!  The video is from my phone, so it isn't great.  Sorry!

What's For Dinner

Tonight we're having Ro-Tel chicken, recipe courtesy of Grammy :)

This is my version--I hope you can understand it!
1 whole chicken or 2-3 chicken breasts
1 box thin spaghetti
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can ro-tel tomatoes
8-16 oz velveeta cheese (depending on how much cheese you like)

Boil chicken (debone) , then remove and boil spaghetti in the remaining broth.  In a saucepan, mix cubed velveeta and c of mushroom until cheese is melted.
In a casserole dish, mix all ingredients together and top with extra cheese.  Bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes (until hot and bubbly).

Oh my....what a scene!

I witnessed something today that still has me shaking my head.  And guessing that these parents need some serious help.

We were going into the grocery store and there was the cutest little girl having a meltdown.  Not just any meltdown--she was literally jumping up and down, stomping her feet, and screaming!!!  Right In Front Of The Store.
All because she wanted to ride IN the cart and her mom was asking her to please wait until they got into the store.  This little cutie wasn't having it.

I kept thinking "if that we my child...."
And then I noticed everyone looking at me like I was supposed to do something!

Then I realized that it was my child.
Oh, I was so embarrassed.   I don't think we've made a scene like that in public in a long time.
What did I do?  I'd like to say that I did what would have happened to me if I had pulled a stunt like that when I was little, but of course you can't do that anymore.
So we went to the car and called dad....poor guy :(   And I did get my shopping done, although i'm sure I looked pretty frazzled!

I am so thankful that we are FINALLY working on a project that has been on 'the list' for about 3 years now!!!  I say we--but I should say Ben :)
If all goes well, i'll have pictures to post this weekend!!

Map Trek -- A Review

Photobucket

Price: $14.95 for each.
 Knowledge Quest

We recently had the opportunity to review a really neat map e-book from Knowledge Quest on the topic of the Medeival World.  This is a download that will add to your current curriculum, or you could use the e-book to guide you in an independent lesson!

I will be honest with you.  We aren't really at a place right now that I thought we'd be able to take advantage of this tool.  Our oldest is in second grade and I felt like maybe some of this was just a bit advanced for him.   Then I realized that the great thing is I could adjust it to whatever learning level he is at!  There are even suggestions for doing this!  Another neat feature is that different maps are included to show what the land looked like during the time period being studied, and what it looks like in the current time.

Here is the full list of maps that are included in the second volume of Map Trek - Medieval World (There will eventually be 4 volumes):
  • World Map (Landforms)
  • Byzantine Empire
  • Islamic Empire
  • Viking Expansion
  • Empire of Charlemagne
  • The Holy Roman Empire
  • African Kingdoms
  • Norman Conquests
  • The Crusades
  • Mongol Empire
  • Medieval China
  • City Centers of Europe
  • Medieval Japan
  • 12th Century Europe
  • The Black Death
  • Hundred Years' War
  • Renaissance Italy
  • Early Explorers
  • Christopher Columbus
  • Later Explorers
  • Central/South America
  • The Powerful Habsburgs
  • The Netherlands
  • The Reformation
  • The Expansion of Sweden
  • The Expansion of Russia
  • Spanish/Portuguese Empires
  • World Map w/ Grid
  • Europe Map w/ Grid
  • Italy Map w/ Grid
  • England Map w/Grid
  • S. America Map w/ Grid

I am certain that we will be using the Map Quest e-book for years to come!  Since I can print only the parts that I want to use, as well as print multiple copies, we'll be able to refer to this quite a bit!
I will be honest and say that the $14.95 price is a bit steep for me, but with all that is included I think most people will be completely satisfied with that price.

Be sure to visit Knowledge Quest and check out all of the other great resources for educators!

What Mason is up to at One year!

A little rundown of our sweet boy and what he's doing now--mainly for myself ( I tend to not write things down enough).

*Not walking, and not trying.  Hopefully soon!
*Says Choo Choo (has been for weeks now), Wyatt, Hi, Dada, yes (while nodding), thank you.  All of these he will repeat after you except for Choo Choo and Wyatt.
*Eats pretty much every thing, but Yogurt is still his favorite.
*Doesn't sleep through the night :(
*He's into everything!  He has learned to get into the cabinets, push buttons on the tv, and we have to watch the power cords!
*He has to have a spoon or fork when eating.  He tries so hard to use them--it's pretty cute!
*Loves books.  A lot!
*Loves trains.  A lot!

Mason is still such a sweet baby and he has a really fun personality!  We are so thankful that God chose to bless us with him!

Mason is ONE!!!

It's so hard to believe that our little baby is one year old today!!!  Here are a few pictures from the past year!
